Celebrating 50 Years of Caring and Sharing
1960 - 2010
A
BRIEF HISTORY OF ST. DAVID’S
·
Episcopal
services took place for the first time in Kinnelon on July 10,
1960, in the
old municipal
building
·The
site of our present building was purchased in May 1961.
Ground-breaking ceremonies
were held on
June 9, 1962 and a sanctuary, parish hall and offices were
constructed. The
first
services in the newly-completed building were held on March
13, 1963.
·The
fall of 1980 brought a realization that the parish building
was no longer sufficient size
to meet
growing needs. Ground-breaking expansion began on October 25,
1981 and was
completed in
1982.
·The
Willing Hands Workshop was established in 1986 to meet needs
of developmentally
disadvantaged
young adults.
·In
1989 the Jewish Congregation of Kinnelon was seeking a
location to conduct worship
services.
St. David’s greeted this congregation and began a relationship
that continues to
serve as a
model of mutual respect and cooperation between religions.
·The
church mortgage was retired and burned at the 1992 annual
parish picnic.
